Introduction to a Mind Reader

Personal photo (2016)

Hi there!

My name is Molly Garner and I am a senior here at The University of Oklahoma. I have 2 older brothers, Matt and Drew. Matt is a graduate student at Wichita State in Kansas and Drew is an OU alum working in OKC! I am utterly obsessed with my dog Jake and look forward to seeing him whenever I get to go back home to Denver, Colorado! Well, it's sorta home...my parents live there, but they moved there my freshman year of college so I don't actually know anyone there. I am originally from Katy (a town right outside of Houston.) I have a boyfriend who is currently serving in the Marine Corps as a special forces infantryman, and stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego! My lucky number is 13, which I know is supposed to be “bad”, I guess I just like being different! I am a psychology major and plan on getting my masters in occupational therapy. I have always loved mythology and the Greek Gods ever since I was a kid and hope to expand my knowledge through this class! One class I took last semester that I really enjoyed was my anatomy class. It was an immense amount of work, but I love that I now know how and why we can move and work like we do! This summer I am going to study abroad in Scotland and I am so excited as I love to travel but have not had many opportunities to do it internationally. I went on a mission trip to Haiti my freshman year and I fell in love with helping others and traveling. I have since been able to travel to Canada and Mexico, but I look forward to traveling to Europe and getting to explore all that it has to offer. I will add more as I think of things about me worth telling!

  1. Hi Molly!
It's so nice to meet you. Congrats on being a senior! I just completed my minor in psychology, and I really enjoyed most of the psych classes I took. Loving dogs we definitely have in common. I have two dogs right now, Sophie and Lyla. Sophie is about 6 years old and Lyla is still a pup (at least to me), at 1.5 years old. Lyla is 55 pounds, but I still call her my puppy and treat her as such. She's very needy and wants attention all the time. I miss her, but I go home to Edmond every now and then to visit. I think it's great that you've traveled the world. I have been to Paris and Italy in the past five years, and I hope to visit more in the future.

  2. I am finding that we have quite a bit in common! I also have 2 older brothers and have been interested in Mythology/the Greek Gods for a while. I even looked into Occupational Therapy for my masters as well! I'm still unsure about it, but it is an option. I also love to travel and have yet to internationally as well. I heard about studying abroad in Scotland during the summer as well and wish I could go, but unfortunately no funds and my parents don't permit me to go :/
I've literally only been to Canada, not even Mexico, and I was super young because we were visiting one of my uncles. Hopefully I get to go back sometime in the future and travel Europe as well! It's great meeting you, I can't wait to see the rest of your work this semester! :D

  3. Your Jake is such a cutie, Molly: thank you for sharing his picture here. Maybe he can become a star in some of your stories for class. As you have already seen, there is room for Greek mythology in class, and there are also so many great Celtic storytelling traditions, so maybe you could use this class as a way to learn about the stories of Scotland to prepare for your fabulous study abroad plans. If you are curious about that, for the Week 2 project you could explore some books with Scottish stories, like: The Scottish Fairy Book. There are some really wonderful Scottish and Celtic story collections you can read for free online! :-)

  4. First of all... Your dog is so cute!! I think that is so cool that you get to study abroad in Scotland! I am excited for you! It is on my bucket list to go to Europe, but I have an 8 month old little girl... So that will probably not be happening any time soon! I looked into occupational therapy a bit when I was in high school, and I think that is awesome that you are going to pursue that as a profession. I also think your major is great because I myself am getting a minor in psychology.

  5. Hey Molly! You're journeys outside the country are incredible. I was actually thinking about going to Scotland to study abroad over the summer as well. I don't think I'll be able to, so I am jealous of that opportunity (but glad you're able too also). The anatomy class you took last semester sounds interesting. Even if it isn't in your major requirement, it still sounds like an awesome class to take! I would love to know more about the human body. Good luck this semester!

  6. Hey Molly! I have got to say, I am super jealous of you. When I lived in Colorado, I loved going to Denver, is a beautiful city if you know where to look. It also helps that it is so close to the mountains, and I went there all the time. Also, your going to Scotland, such a beautiful county, I hope you have a great time when you are there! I wish you luck with your major, psychology can be fun and difficult at the same time!

  7. Hey Molly, it's nice to meet another fellow psych major! I think it's cool that you went on a mission trip! I've been on a medical/dental brigade to Panama twice and it was the best experience I've ever had honestly. Your dog looks so happy! What breed is he? I've been to Canada as well and I loved it. It's such a nice country with plenty of things to do. Have fun in Scotland!

  8. Hey Molly! That is so cool that you are a Psychology major and would like to be an Occupational Therapist. I am considering Physical Therapy. Your dog is so cute as well! I love going home to visit my two dogs. It is so hard not having them here at school with me right now. That's crazy that your parents moved! Where are you originally from? My roommates parents did that as well when she came to college. I feel like it would be hard to not go back "home" to all your friends from where you grew up with, but it is also cool that you get go visit Denver! I'm not quite accustomed to the cold just yet. Also very exciting that you get to go to Scotland!

  9. Hi Molly! I also have a boyfriend that is currently serving in the military. His an army infantry man. Luckily, he is in the Nation Guard as of right now while he finishes up his degree at OU. I cannot imagine living so far away from him! I know that must take a lot of strength. I am a psychology major as well! I plan to go to nursing school right after graduation. I have always wanted to study abroad especially when I heard of Dr. Gronlund's summer abroad program in Scotland. I assume that is the one you are going on? Congratulations! I'm sure it will be super exciting!

  10. Hi Molly,
First off, I loved opening up your page to see a huge picture of your dog. Jake is absolutely adorable! It’s always refreshing to discover people with huge hearts like you; you travel but also help people in the process. Occupational therapy seems perfect for you. Have fun in Scotland this summer! Good luck on your future endeavors.

  11. Hi Molly it is nice to meet you! Your dog is adorable. I am a huge dog person and just recently got one for myself. That is actually funny that your lucky number is 13. Two of my sisters and my aunt were all born on Friday the 13th so my family thinks that number is lucky also! That is awesome that you have been to those different places. I am really wanting to go to Canada and hope to go very soon. Good luck this semester and on your future career!

  12. Hello Molly Kate! I can certainly see why you look forward to returning home to a face like that, Jake is adorable. I am the same way about my dogs, I am more excited to see them when I go home than anyone else. You say your parents moved during your freshmen year of college, where did you live previously?

  13. I'm super impressed at your self-proclaimed ability to read minds, haha!

It would be so cool to visit Scotland! Before you go, you should read a little bit about Scotland's history. I've been learning about that this semester in a different class and it's very interesting. It's such an old culture that it seems much more developed than American culture.

Good luck with the rest of your semester and traveling abroad!

  14. Hi Molly! My lucky number is actually 13 too.. It was the day of the date I was born. Studying abroad in Scotland seems really exciting, there's a lot of history behind it so make sure to see as much as you can while you're there! Also, see if you can manage to go to other countries in Europe while you're there, haha.

  15. I love your dog! He looks like he has such a sweet personality! I freaking love dogs of all different shapes and sizes. I volunteer at the humane society here in okc and love all the dogs I see.I just wish I could take them all home with me! I hope you enjoy Europe as much as I did! (I didn't get to go to Scotland though :( maybe next time. )

  16. Hi Molly! It's really great to learn about you! Being a psychology major sounds so interesting. The way people think is always so fascinating, and psychology can be used so much in stories. I'm also jealous of you being able to go to Scotland. That sounds like so much fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely. I look forward to reading your stories!

  17. Hi Molly, it’s great to “meet” you and get to know you a little bit. I think it’s great that your boyfriend is serving in the Marine Corps. It takes a special person to do what he is doing and it also takes an incredibly selfless person to make a relationship with a service member work. It’s difficult for your significant other to be away frequently and I know it can be hard to manage. So, I think it’s really terrific that you both are making it work. I’m envious of all the travel you’ve done. I’d love to travel more but my life style hasn’t really afforded me that opportunity (My parents aren’t able to help me with funding school and I didn’t receive a scholarship, so I’m working my way through school. Full time work and school as well as marrying very young creates a bit of financial strain on a person.) Not that I’m complaining, really. I wouldn’t have it any other way!! I hope you have a fantastic time in Scotland this summer. That sounds incredible!

  18. Hey Molly!
Per usual, I have to mention dog's first. Your dog is adorable, and that's exciting that you'll be able to go seem him soon! Also, it definitely sounds like you come from a family of Sooners (super awesome!). I agree that Anatomy is a really interesting class!
OH and how cool that you've had the opportunity to travel so much!
Anyways, I hope you've had a great semester.
    Good luck in your future!

  19. Hi Molly!
I think you won everyone over by mentioning your CUTE CUTE dog!! I love dogs and have a black lab that I seriously love more than life. Congrats on getting to go to Scotland this summer – you will have to play a round of golf! You have a lot to be proud of this semester after looking through your blog.
