Improvements :)

Hi!
I first really loved the story planning option. I was a little unclear about the idea that if we did not love our story and the next week we fell in love with one, if we could do that story instead and scratch the other one! If that makes any sense... I never used it to do extra research, more just to plan out and straighten up my thoughts as I would come up with so many ideas the more I planned!

I also liked the idea of the themes! It could be cool to see the whole story of some of the Gods and characters, rather than bits and pieces over many weeks! Maybe it would be cool so if instead of Love Stories, it could be "Zeus" and have all of the stories over him and his life.

I really enjoyed both of these ideas :)

Week 14 Storyplanning

This week I read Eve's Unequal Children by D.L. Ashliman.
-This story is over Adam and Eve with a twist

Adam and Eve Source
-Adam worked the field at the house that they built while Eve gave birth to children every year
-Dang in the story the ugly kids made up 12 of her children!
-Some were beautiful and some were ugly.
-LOL yeah story of my life
-The Lord said he was going to come by for a visit
-Can you imagina how nervous you would be?!
-Eve hid the ugly children and put on display her beautiful children
-The Lord came and blessed the beautiful children with wonderful futures
-Makes sense
-Eve brought in the ugly children to be blessed and the Lord blessed them too
-He blessed the ugly children with poor jobs and futures.
-Poor kids:(
-Eve asked why and the Lord say because everyone has a job to make the world work basically!
-She apologized for questioning his word and the children were stuck with the jobs

For this story, similar to my storybook, I think it would be fun to make this from the Lords perspective or from a child's perspective. I think that it would be good to get it from one of the ugly kids view as they have it harder than the beautiful one! OHHHH IDEA!! I think it would be so fun to write this from the future and have it set at like a family reunion where they all come together later in life and recount this story and how the Lord blessed them all. Then we could see how they turned out and I could make the beautiful children unhappy with poor personal lives and the ugly kids have beautiful large families, and loved by all. This would show beauty and money isn't everything, which I think we could all use a lesson on today!

Week 14 Reading Notes

This week I read Rumpelstiltskin by D.L. Ashliman

Shrek and Rumpelstiltskin Source
`A man wanted to impress the king so he lied and said his daughter could spin straw into gold.
`The daughter was taken into a room and she cried because she could not do it
`If she did not do it he said he would kill her
`A little man came in and kept striking up deals with her to the point where she promised to give him her first child
`When she had a kid, he came to collect and he said if she guessed his name she would not have to pay.
`after 3 days of not being able to figure it out she got it right and he killed himself.

Week 13 Story Planning Post: Cinderella! Cinderella!

This week I decided to write over Aschenputtel by Lucy Crane
Cinderella Source

I chose this story as my ALL-TIME favorite princess is Cinderella. I go to Disney around once a year and no matter how many times I go I still get so excited to meet her.

Aschenputtel-German Cinderella
It would be cool to incorporate the German roots
-Cindy's mom died and she went to the grave all the time
In the original we never got to hear from the mother so it could be cool to write this from beyond the grave.
-The new wife had 2 daughters, who were evil and took away Cindy's things
Evil Stepsisters!! In this story they are beautiful though??
-They made her life so hard
-Her dad went out and she asked for the first twig to hit his hat
In the end of this story the dad is not very nice to her so I would make him consistently nice throuhout the story since it doesn't make sense for her dad to hat her.
-She went to her mothers grave and planted the twig so that it would grow
-A bird would grant her wishes while at the grave
How cool is this!! This is like her helpful mice from the original!
-A dance was among them but she was forbidden to go unless she finished chores
-The wishful bird helped her clean
-Then she had nothing nice to wear
I like how in this story it is not that the sisters destroy her clothes, she simply doesn't have any.
-She went to the grave and the bird dropped her a beautiful gown
-She went to the ball and the Prince fell for her
This is where the story gets a little weird...I would stick to the original and have the stepsisters try to make their feet fit, and she can runaway as it is a multi night ball, but not to disappear into the pigeon house!
-She disappeared into the Pigeon House
...To be Continued

Week 13:Extra Reading Notes

This week I decided to write over Aschenputtel by Lucy Crane.
This is the Part 2 of my first notes.
Cinderella Source

On the 3rd day Cindy went to her mothers grave again and asked for a beautiful dress.
The bird gave it to her and the prince told everyone that she was with him.
She ran away at midnight and he put sticky stuff on the stairs
Her shoe stuck to the floor and so he picked it up
The mom made the 2 evil stepsisters cut off parts of their feet to fit in the shoe.
The prince saw the blood and said they were not the right girl.
He went back and the father said that he had one other daughter but she was gross
The prince insisted and the shoe fit!
They went off and at the wedding the birds poked out the stepsisters eyes!

Week 12 Reading Notes: Celtic

I chose to read Dogs by Christopher Smart this week. I love dogs and so I thought this was a perfect one to write over!
I personally found these fables hard to read and to understand, but I tried my best!
The first fable is about The Faithful House-dog
Basically a man placed a trap for a dog and tried to bribe the dog to fall for it with food.
The dog was not fooled and he got away
The man asked him inside, hence the house dog.

Personal Photo 2016
The next fable an old dog was loyal to his master and would hunt with him
The dog was so old however that he could not keep hold of the latest kill.

Week 11 Story Planning Post

I chose to write a remake version of the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs by Joseph Jacobs.

I think it would be really fun to write this as though it was from the wolf, but the wolf isn't a bad guy he just wants to have lunch WITH the pigs. Another idea for this is to make it more from the pigs point of view! OH the wolf could be bad still but make it from his point of view and he tells of how he is so disrespected and he can't go into town to get food or anything.

This story is the traditional story of 3 pigs who were set off to survive for themselves

Piglets Source
~One chose to make a house out of straw
a wolf came and said "little pig little pig let me come in"
he replied "no no by the hair of my chinny chin chin"
the wolf blew his house down and ate the pig
I would chose to write this out and he only got mad because everyone in town was so afraid of him so he was forced to eat them-maybe by like a spell or something? Or the wolf explains how he is wanting to talk to the pig but once again is denied and so he eats him.

~one chose to make a house out of Furze (kinda reminds me of a rose bush with spikes and flowers)
the wolf came and said the same thing
the pig said no and he ate him
Once again the wolf would explain that he wanted to simply talk with the pig but he refused. and he didnt mean to blow his house down it was a miscommunication!

~the third pig built a house out of bricks
the wolf came and when the pig said he couldn't come in, he couldn't blow the house down.
Since the wolf couldn't use his typical tactic he thinks what if we met in a public place and he suggests the turnip field

The wolf tried to trick him and told him they would go and get turnips at 6
At 5 the pig went and got some turnips which made the wolf mad
He was stood up! he just wants to talk and it is getting so twisted and out of hand!
The pig tricked him about going to a fair the same way
He is finally fed up with getting stood up and said that he was going to come back to his house one last time
The pig put a pot of water underneath the chimney and boiled the wolf when he came down
The pig refused to open the door even though he knew the pig was in there so he went in through the roof and his last words were "why is everyone so afraid of me"
He lived happily ever after
The wolf did not live happily ever after lol
I could have an excerpt of like "five years late" and the pig is telling the story to his kids! Like tell us again how our uncles died...

Week 11 Reading Notes Part B

This second story is Henny-Penny by Joseph Jacobs

This story is loosely like chicken little
A hen named henny-penny was eating corn one day and something hit her head from the sky so she went off to tell the king that the sky was falling
she gathered up a lot of other fun named friends along the way
they came up to a fox and he said that they were going the wrong way and to follow him
the fox led them to a cave and said to come in one at a time
he killed all of them
one of them didnt die right away and got to warn henny-penny and so she ran home
she never told the king the sky was falling

Week 11 Reading Notes

I chose to write over the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs by Joseph Jacobs.

My all time FAVORITE animal is the pig, I have been obsessed since I got some beanie baby pigs when I was 6 months old crying on an airplane. I still have them to this day!

Storytelling: The 5 Dogs

Bea Lewis
March 29, 2017
Creative Writing 2325
The 5 Dogs

5 Puppies Source
Once upon a time there was a village settled in current day Oklahoma. This was a very special and strange village named Kayak.  In Kayak lived many families, however one in particular contained a nice family of a mom, dad, and daughter, this family had a very beautiful dog as well. This dog was very attached to the daughter, whose name was Jenna. Jenna and the dog, Jake, were the best of friends and every night they slept together. Now every night, this dog would transform into a man      (told you this village was strange) and once Jenna became of age, the human Jake and Jenna would sleep together at night to which she fell pregnant. Poor Jenna began to show a bump and her father was outraged. Even worse, her father found out who the true father was. He was so angry he decided to kill the beloved dog/human, Jake. Even worse than killing Jenna's lover, her parents abandoned her and burned everything down so she was left with nothing.

An old neighbor who always had a soft spot for Jenna gave her a match and told her where to find a place to build a fire. This old woman led her to a nice barn and months later Jenna gave birth to 5 lovely puppies. These puppies, while cute, were rambunctious and since Jenna had 4 boys and 1 girl she barely had a hold on them. It is hard to raise 5 children, let alone 5 children of a different species so Jenna worked multiple jobs to support them all. Everyday Jenna would hear giggling and laughter as she left the house! So one day she hid and peered through a window once the puppies believed she was gone. What she saw blew her away; her 5 puppies were now 5 small children! Jenna stormed back in, yelling at the children for hiding this from their mother for so long. Rather than use this anger as a reason to be angry, she channeled it into teaching the young boys how to hunt.

Many years later and the boys were the best whale hunters she had every encountered. They would drag in the whales to the little town they had built for themselves and have feasts. Jenna's only daughter learned how to sew from her mother and would create beautiful dresses. After a while the old woman came back to see how the family was doing and saw all of the whale meat available. The new town that everyone ran too after Jenna became pregnant was struggling. So the old lady went back to her town and told everyone of the prosperous Kayak and convinced everyone to move back. Everyone was so impressed with the boys hunting talents that they made them all chiefs and made the only daughter a princess. The town went back to normal, the parents apologized for their behavior and they lived happily ever after.

Bibliography: This story is The Dog-Husband  by Stith Thompson, originally from Tales of the Northern American Indians.

Authors Note: This story was originally about a young girl who fell pregnant by a dog/human and an old crow led her to the place to make a fire. I found it a little too weird for all of the neighbors to be part animals so I made it an old woman! I chose to write it as if it was written for another class and put a heading on top!

Reading Notes: Native American Part A

This week I chose to read Myths and Legends of Alaska told by Inuit storytellers.
Funny polar bear Source

I chose to take notes over the first story: The creation of the Raven

-it sounds like a man basically cracked from an egg?
-His egg was hanging from a Beach Pea vine
-He drank water?
-A raven came and flew to him
- PLOT TWIST THE RAVEN CHANGED INTO A MAN
-The raven is confused as he has never seen someone like him before
-He repeatedly asks where the man just came from
-the raven is the one who planted the beach vine or so he says
-The raven leaves for 4 days and comes back with 4 berries he has made.
-The man eats them!
The raven then makes some mountain sheep along with some reindeer
-The raven then makes some wild reindeer
-The raven then decides that the man will be lonely and makes for him out of clay a beautiful girl.

Week 9 Storyplanning: The 5 Dogs

This story is The Dog-Husband  by Stith Thompson, originally from Tales of the Northern American Indians.

For planning out this story I have an idea to write it from the parents point of view, or maybe write it from the one female puppy point of view!
I originally chose this story because it revolves around a dog and I pictured my cute pup as the character! After reading the story not so much LOL!

My dog Jake. Personal Photo 2013
-Girl has a dog best friend that sleeps with her
This is weird, I may change it to a human that the parents just do not like! And the kids look like the dad so the parents leave
-In the night the dog turns into a man and sleeps with her
Equally weird and illegal...
-She falls pregnant
-Her father kills the dog:(
I would change this to the father just bans his daughter from seeing the bad boy again as killing him is a little intense
-Her family abandoned her out of shame and left her to die
I was confused as to why she would die...like does she not know how to care for herself? In any case I will make this happen
-A crow took pity and gave her coals between a clam
I will make Crow and old nice neighbor who lives next door!
-When they crackled they led her to a fire
Again I wasn't sure why this was so vital, maybe the neighbor gave her cash for a motel for a little bit?
-She gave birth to 5 puppies
She will give birth but to human children, they will just look like their dad
-She kept hearing singing so she investigated and found that the puppies turned into humans when she went to work
Oh this could be tricky, maybe when their mother is not around they will turn into nice proper young kids and they are very difficult for their mother
-She scolded the puppies and forced them to stay human
-She raised them as human children and taught them to hunt
The good kids could be amazing hunters and this is their secret talent!
-The boys hunted whales and were really good at it
-Crow came back and saw the whales and told the village
The old woman neighbor was coming back to check on the kids as she always wondered what happened to them. OH! I could do the story from the neighbors point of view!
-The village moved back and the boys were made Chiefs
I would keep this but I would include the only girl and make her the tribe princess!

Reading Notes: Native American Part B

For part B I read The Rolling Head by Stith Thompson.
Holding a pet snake Personal Photo
-A man lived with his wife and 2 kids
-Every morning he would draw her
-She went to fetch water because a snake told her too
-The paint washed off as she went to the lake day after day
-The man stayed back one day and killed the snake and the wife
-He fed her meat to the children
-The wife's head rolled toward the children
-The head told the kids what they did
-the kids went off but were protected by animals
I was not a fan of this story as I was honestly just creeped out by it! I will not write my story off of this one, I will do it off of the story from Monday!

Week 8 Growth Mindset

Inspiration Source
Through this class I have definitely found out some strengths and weaknesses in myself. Although I have also found myself growing and maturing already through not only this class, but through life in general! I used to be so defensive about my mistakes and I think through both maturity and time I have found myself okay with my mistakes. I also find it much easier to take responsibility and apologize. One thing I am still needing to work on it doing the bare minimum for not just class, but in my sorority and other aspects of life. I have started to workout and let's just say I am not the athletic type. I have a fairly slender build naturally, but I could not run more than a mile to save my life. I always figured since I never have before, I couldn't now. How wrong I was! I have only been working out for a few weeks and already I can run a few miles without stopping! This is just a testament to how changing your view can seriously change your outcomes!

Week 8 Reflections

My favorite flower, Rannuculus Source
When reading back through my reading notes, I was happy with them as even though they may be short, they work perfectly for me! I would however like to work on my stories as I would like to work on conversations in them. I have a hard time writing out conversations with all of the grammar rules that go with it. I would also like to try a timeline or diary- like entry for my story as I have seen many people do this and I love reading them!

I am super happy I chose to do a storybook for my project! I love my idea and think that I could make it really fun and  personal as I can explore different ways of writing! I feel pretty good about my feedback, although everyone does such a great job there is not much for me to critique! I love getting feedback as well so I always enjoy going back and reading through my own comments!

Reading Notes: Africa (Congo) Part B

This week I read The Three Brothers from the African Unit. This story is by Richard Edward Dennett and came out of Congo!

Three Boys Source
-This story starts off with a woman who gives birth to triplets! (Oh my sweetness!)
-The woman decided she could not take care of them so she sets them in tall grass and walks away (seriously?!)
-The babies somehow survive the newborn stage and as toddlers go exploring for food.
-The come across a bounty of food, including bananas, but are afraid to eat it!
-The are situated next to a river and the River Spirtit tells them that it is okay to eat and that they should.
-The 3 boys eat the food and love it!
-Because they have found food they are able to grow up strong and build houses
-The river spirit gives them wives and so eventually the 3 brothers create a town as they reproduce!
-One day a man stumbled upon the town and PLOT TWIST! ITS THE BOYS FATHER!
-The father runs back to their mother and tells them he found them, but she cannot go the entire way to see them
-The brothers now stumble upon a woman (their mother) and go off to kill her!
-The River spirit saves their butts again and tells them that she is their mother and to protect her and nurture her!
-The boys nurture her and they live together in the town!

-This would be a fun story to write about this week if I wasn't already writing the one I planned for last week! Bummer!

Reading Notes: Africa (Congo) Part A

This week I read How Kengi Lost Her Child from the African Unit. This story is by Richard Edward Dennett and came out of Congo!

-This story starts off with polygamy...off to a great start!
-In all seriousness this story was really sad as 2 women fought over land and the things they grew on it.
-The land was split evenly by the husband in the beginning of the story.
A sweet baby Source
-One day one of the woman, named Gunga, stole some beans from her sister wife, Kengi's, land.
-The woman made an agreement that basically whatever is produced on each respective land is theirs!
-One day Gunga was chilling, Kengi came over to beg fro tobacco as she was addicted and getting sick from not having any!
-While on Gunga's land, Kengi gives birth to a child!
-Gunga says that because it was born on her land, the child belongs to her (kinda makes sense in a very literal interpretation of their agreement)
-They take their cases to court and....
GUNGA WINS!
-this could be made easily into an everyday kind of story as a kid is in the middle of a custody battle!

Week 6 Story Planning Post: The Hermits

For this week I read The Story of the Man Who Did Not Wish to Die by Yei Theodora Ozaki from Japanese Fairy Tales

-This story starts off by a man Sentaro whose name means millionaire, has no care in the world because he inherited an amount of money so he does not worry about a job or anything else
LOL this would be the freaking life! I could make his name something cool like Sintario so it includes the word SIN, just a fun idea!
-He wanted to live for a very long time and so he was going to live frugal.
Yeah right...
-He went on a hunt to find some hermits who had Elixir of Life
How did these hermits get the Elixir of life? They could have gotten it from an old witch or have stolen it and that is why they are hermits, as they have to hide from the cops! I could write it from one of their points of view.

-Nobody would tell him where to find this Elixir of life and so he went to a shrine and prayed for 7 days
-

Hermits Caves in England Source
I would like to focus on these hermits with a Elixir of Life and talk about how they got it in the first place
Again I would like to mayeb make it so they got it from somewhere cool, but they are also not hardly living because they have to hide and this could create a problem for some of the members of the group. Like they wish they had never stolen it and just want to grow old and die.
-Maybe they could be super old too, but look very young and be kept in a cool basement or something in hiding
-Ohhh maybe I could do a story of the town he goes to where nobody ever dies! That would be cool to tell of the people who live there!
This would be a fun one to expand on as I could create a Utopia and it could be full of cool creatures and fun things, except that all of the people who reside there are at least like 200 years old! This could be fun although it would be more difficult to make into a story that twists back into the original one!
I think the best way to go for me is to write from the point of view of the hermits, where they got the Elixir of life, How they stole it, and where they hide now and how hard their life is because they are in hiding!

Week 5 Storytelling: Fish Out of Water

My friends and I Source
My story is an interesting one, my life has not been easy and it definitely has not been normal. My name is Blue, as in Blue Damselfish. I was born out of water and have somehow found my way back in it. Do not get me wrong, I have many friends in the ocean where I live, many who have great powers and owe me many favors, which you will see I use to my advantage later in the story. Speaking of story I guess I should start to tell you mine.

I am a Blue Damselfish, ironic isn't it? Being that I am trapped in a fishes body and stuck in the ocean. Well, turns out I am not stuck in the ocean nor a fishes body(under certain circumstances).
The story starts when one sunny day I was caught while I was swimming, on my merry way to go to the store to pick up some oil for my scales. Some old wretched net caught me of all things. I have prided myself on dodging such things and yet, here I was in some water in a little bag. The man that caught me was clearly poor, living off nothing and looked as though he hadn't eaten or washed in days. He took the rest of the fish he caught and myself to the trading post. When we get there he sold all of the fish...except for me. At first I was grateful, for I was not going to die at the hands of a butcher. Then I found myself questioning if something was wrong with me (besides what I already know). The man who caught me looks at me with fascination. Through the water I heard muffled words of beauty and something of a well.

I soon found out that the well I heard of would become my new home. He put me in the well and the next day left off to fish. When he was gone I tried to escape and flopped out of water and after about 30 seconds I felt a funny tingling in my fin...turned feet! I turned into the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, not that I have seen many. Thankful to this man in a twisted way for showing me my new talent I decide to help him out and clean up a bit around the place. After all it really was a mess. When I heard him come back I was startled and found myself back on the floor flopping as a fish! I flop my way back to the well as he walks in. The next day the man, whom I have named "puppy" cause of his puppy dog eyes, looks at me in awe. For he had stayed back, spied on me, and found out my secret! He took my fish body and threw it in the fire where we watched it burn! He should not have done that, as he now wants me to become his wife. He took me to a King to get his approval of the marriage, and in a sick twist of fate the King decided he would like to marry me as well. Puppy becomes very upset and I use my favors from my ocean friends I mentioned earlier to help Puppy complete all of his tasks the King gives him.

Crazy to think that all of this happened in the span of 40 days, and here I am about to walk down the aisle. I love the man standing at the alter and while it took some time, I am so grateful to him for catching me on that day. Who knows where I would be if he had not.

Authors note: I read this story and immediately fell in love with the idea of the story being from the fishes point of view. In the original story the author goes into much greater detail about the fisherman and the tasks he was given by the king. I chose to focus on the love story and her point of view as she was the main character in my opinion! I chose the Blue Damselfish as the fit was too perfect to pass up. Damsel in distress as the little fish was also a damsel in distress!

Reading Notes: Jakata Tales part B

This week I am reading Jakata Tales with the original story, Eastern Stories and Legends by Marie L. Shedlock.

How the Antelope Was Caught

A wild antelope Source
- I loved this story!  I would choose to write this story for my story time.

- An antelope was super jumpy and a king asked if it could be caught.

- It was caught as the antelope was greedy and was bribed with honey

- The king made everyone aware that greed is what is going to ruin men forever for that antelope.

- I could easily make this story my own as I could change it to a cow or pig and it could be bribed into  a slaughterhouse or something...although that would be very sad. Maybe a dog into a cage!

- The story was about greed and I would have to keep this consistent as that is what struck a cord with me and what made this story so special.

Reading Notes: Jataka Tales part A

This week I am reading Jakata Tales with the original story, Eastern Stories and Legends by Marie L. Shedlock.

The Hare that Was Not Afraid to Die
Wild Hare Source

-I really enjoyed this story as the meaning was very inspiring!

-I would do a story about the meaning and maybe use different animals and a different situation

-The story of sacrificing would be the same where the pig gave up his own life

-While I really enjoy this story I am having trouble decided how I could change it to make it my own

-I could possibly talk about it from the mans point of view as his fish were stolen and he followed the otter into the woods to find out what he was doing with them and he stumbled upon the 4 friends!

Tech Tip: Creating a Google Site

This week I created a google site using their helpful new site format! I really enjoyed picking out my header and coming up with my different names navigating the differences between a title page name, a title link name etc. I found the new website making format easy to use and follow as well as easy to design! I played around with the other font styles, but ultimately decided on the standard one with pink coloring! You can find my webpage below!

My website is Camp Olympus
Hope you enjoy it!

Feedback Focus

Books Source
Strategy One:
Reading Out Loud
I really enjoyed this story as a whole as I had always kinda wondering where the root of the dogs and cats hatred came from.  While I know that is not exactly the most reliable source as to their hatred, it is fun all the same! This technique was a little more difficult for me than expected as I am so used to skimming over the words quite quickly and filling in any words I may have missed. This technique forced me to slow down and read every single word!
I don't think that this is possible in every situation as reading out loud can be frustrating for others, but it is a great technique in terms of keeping the focus!

Strategy Two: Copy-and-Delete
This strategy was actually more fun than time consuming as I previously had thought! I had never thought about doing this as a way to take notes, but it makes so much logical sense! It gave me a general summary of Buchettino by the time I was finished with it I could easily read my notes to someone and they would understand the story! Side note: this story made me so sad as I was confused as to what the ogre was doing myself with the figs and I too would have fallen for his tricks! I found this one more useful than the previous strategy as I not only took my time to read it but also had notes at the end of it to look back on!

Strategy Three: Use a Timer
I chose to read the zoology 1114 as I took that class myself as a Freshman an remember it vividly. It was by far my hardest class and I remember feeling so stressed about it during finals week. Little did I know that would end up being an easier class in all of my time at OU. I enjoyed her writing style as I find myself writing the same way and really find myself loving it! In terms of this technique I did not find myself liking the timer as I kept looking back at it to see how much time I had left and felt rushed even though I had plenty of time, I just felt pressure from it!

Overall I liked the Copy-and-Delete method the best and I imagine myself using it often!

Week 4 Story Planning: Fish Out of Water

This story is out of Fourty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales By Ignacz Kunos

This story is basically a magic fish and yet a love story at the same time!
Beautiful Fish-Woman Source

-So a man's parents died and they kept hidden his fathers occupation of a fisherman
---Why was it kept hidden? Could make it to be a family secret or something?
-He found his fathers fishing net and decided to use it, as he was poor.
---Where did he find it? Maybe he went to an old storage unit for his family and ound it?
-He caught a fish so beautiful he couldn't bare to eat or sell it and it cleaned his house when he was away
-He secretly watched and found out that it was a secret maiden and threw the shedded fish skin in the fire
-News of her beauty spread and the king demanded to see her...cinderella-esque!
----Could tell it from the maiden’s point of view and tell of how she was originally turned into a fish…Like Beauty and the Beast except for she is the Beast?! This could be fun to expand on as if she was turned into a fish because she looked down upon fisherman
----The story could take place before she was caught and it could be more like oh shoot I’m caught, but at the same time she is just grateful to be out of the water and back into the human world so she thanks him by cleaning his house as she can only turn human for a few hours? Although this kinda reminds me of Shrek and Fiona!
- The king wanted her to be his wife and struck up a deal with the man, if he could build a palace with jewels and gold in 40 days he could have her back... I would end the story here on a cliffhanger possibly
----The story ends with………I now pronounce you Husband and Wife, but you don’t know which on she ended up marrying would be fun!! Although everyone would hate me...

Week 3 Story: My dad is a Celebrity

It is an average day at Glendale Preparatory Academy; sunny with a slight wind as my stepdad and I pull into the parking lot. We stick out like a sore thumb in our Honda minivan compared to the other kids in my class, who not only drive themselves to school, but in their Maserati's and Porsche's no less. I have gone to school here ever since I was in 6th grade when my mom married my step-dad, who happens to be the Principal at this god forsaken compound of entitled brats...and yet, I feel like I need to prove myself to them. Ridiculous I know, but I am sick and tired of being taunted for not belonging. My real dad is none other than Pheobus Sun, as in the Hollywood golden boy or well...man...dad...person. That's where I got my name, Pheathon, which has only been another source of torment. My mom refuses to flash around the child support and puts it in a college and emergency fund for me. Unfortunately, this means that nobody believes me when I tell him or her who my father is. I have a plan though, after school today I am asking my mom if I can go and visit Dad this weekend for a quick trip and I will finally be able to prove to my classmates that I am one of them!

"Mommmmm?!?!" I cry out as soon as I walk through the door, "I gotta ask you somethinggggg!" She rounds the corner with the dog, Cerberus, biting at her ankles, "What Pheathon? I'm busy trying to train this beast!" Off to a great start...

Two days later, after some convincing, I find myself on an airplane flying to Beverly Hills to see my dad for the first time in almost four years. Nervous is an understatement, but I am here on a mission, get the Gold Ferrari...shouldn't be too difficult. The limo driver pulls up to the ENORMOUS mansion (which even that feels like an understatement) as a golden god-like man walks out the front door. "Hey son! Ha! No pun intended," Pheobus or well dad calls. "Hey dad," I say while we walk inside the house and make small talk. The first day went by without a hitch and so I decided to bite the bullet and get to the purpose of this trip. To save you guys the boring ways a teen gets what they want, the conversation went a little something like this... I started out with a little guilt, "Hey dad, I've missed you these past four years...shame you haven't come to see me..." to which he made up some excuses. I followed suit with "Yeah, well, a son needs his dad in his life and bullies are hard to deal with..." check and mate. Dad replied with, "I have no need to hide my son, what you do want, I will give you anything you wish." It was honestly easier than I thought! I ask for the gold Ferrari and since he must keep his word, he is forced to give it to me. Not to say that he doesn't warn me and give me rules.

"This engine is so big, even I have trouble handling it! And don't go into the next town over! And be sure not to go too fast or too slow- keep with traffic! And watch for red lights!" Blah blah blah...

The next day the papers read:

"Pheobus' Sun Son Dies in Fiery Crash"

Firefighters put out a blaze Source
Tragedy struck yesterday afternoon as Pheathon Sun crashed his dad, Pheobus Sun' gold   Ferrari on his way to Glendale, Arizona as his phone map showed.
Initial police reports show excessive spend played a factor.
Memorial times have yet to be released by the family.

On the bright side, the kids from my school finally figured out that I wasn't lying about my lineage...on the dark side I am writing this story from wherever you believe dead people go. I can't go and give away all the secrets of the world!

Bibliography: This story is based off of Tony Kline, "Pheathons' Ride.

Authors note: I wanted to bring this story into modern day and focus on the reason he wants to drive his dad's chariot or in this case, a gold Ferrari and not focus on his death although I did pull parts from all of "Ovid's Metamorphoses" story lines. I had a lot of fun coming up with this story line and how it would all fit together! I am glad in the end I did not continue the story to go into detail of his death as I wanted this story to be one that didn't make you never want to read one of my stories again!

Reading Notes: Cupid and Psyche, Part B

Part 2 of Cupid and Psyche

The story that interested me most is Venus and Psyche

My all-time FAVORITE princess is Cinderella. I seriously have loved her even since I was a toddler and so this story made me super excited as it related to her, as you said.

Venus Source

-Venus as beautiful as she may seem above abuses Psyche and her swollen and pregnant belly as she says no man will want her!

-Similar to Cinderella she tells Psyche that the only way a man will want her is if she works and proves herself!

-Ants come and pity Psyche, they do the task for her and disappear!

---One way to change this is to keep it back then but instead of the ants leaving possibly make them be friends and keep them constant throughout the rest of the story?

---The theme of love is huge throughout this story (shocker with Cupid and Venus being in it) but that theme needs to stay constant or else it will lose its power so the ants can't be the main part of the story!

Reading Notes: Cupid and Psyche, Part A

Psyche's Beauty and the Anger of Venus by Tony Kline
Link to Story
Cupid and Psyche Source

-Instead of using the girl as kidnapped and set back in time, what if a mother was reading her daughter this out of a children's story book before bed?
-Psyche is the most beautiful girl ever seen by most and Goddess Venus was basically abandoned
-Venus' son is Cupid!
- Told Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the worst man alive basically and someone way below her beauty and moral standards
-The story continues but I think I would like to stop at just this story and continue into her having a dream and marrying a man that IS her standard and see what kind of life they could have and continue the story from there.

Feedback Thoughts

Self Doubt Source
For this assignment on getting feedback, I read Silence the Critical Voices in your Head, I read this in hopes that I would figure out how to get my own self-doubt out of my head. This posts focuses on the positives of criticism and not getting too hung up on the small details of the negative. This is hard for me because I tend to focus exactly on what I'm not supposed to- the negative. I will pick things out that people have said, even in a compliment, and twist it into a negative. I also read Why rejection hurts so much-and what to do about it as a way to figure out why I pull out the negative in a positive comment. After reading about my own critical voices it was good to read about things I can do to help my feeling of rejection that comes after the criticism. I know when other students give me feedback that may upset me I need to reach out to others who bring me joy and that I bring joy too as well. I know that criticism will only help me in the future and I need to not get offended or upset over it! In terms of giving feedback, I read Be a Mirror: Give Readers Feedback That Fosters a Growth Mindset, this article was especially helpful for me when it said to "Focus on what the reader is doing (not what is missing)". I know that when I give feedback I have a tendency to say things like "I wish this had been included" when I should praise them on what they did do and as the article said,  " A mirror cannot reflect back what is not there". The final article I read over giving feedback was 7 Key Characteristics of Better Learning Feedback and I found this article to be my favorite. This is because it was straightforward and being a blunt person myself I found it easier to track and get hints of what good feedback should consist of. I know I never want to come off as rude or as too nice to where it isnt helpful and this article helped me realize how I can accomplish this! I look forward to reading and giving feedback to my peers, as I know they will do with me!

Reading Post: Ovid's Metamorphoses , Part A

 Ovid's Metamorphoses
By Tony Kline

Pheathon
The Sun God, Phoebus. Source

-Child of the sun, nobody believed his father was Phoebus, asked for proof
-So cool, he went to the west and went to his fathers "office" surrounds by the seasons
-as proof  pheathon asked for his chariot
Could Possibly turn this tale into one of celebrity in the set of Beverly Hills?
-could use like LA highway as the track is super dangerous and he is not ready for it

Pheathon's Ride
can continue the story into this story?
-Out of everything he could have asked for he asks for the most dangerous thing possible!
He is begged by his father not to take it but he does so he is warned, kinda like a real father might do.
-Says to not go too high or too low, like maybe the next town over as one part is sketchy or something
-He loses the track and starts going too high as he cant control the horses or reins...
-He lights the world on fire, and Earth asks what she has done to deserve this. Maybe he could hit a pedestrian that survives to tell the tale or it could be told from his father point of view??
Could possible crash and be in a fire as he is surrounded by it...

 The Death of Pheathon
Not sure to include this into the story...but not sure how to finish up the other without it.
-Basically Jupiter blows him out of the sky to save the earth but that can't be done without being super gruesome in the city story!

Growth Mindset

Hello there!
Carol Dweck and her idea on growth mindset is not actually new to me! Last semester in my math class I was given some assignments about researching her and the growth mindset topic. I found it interesting as I am definitely in the fixed mindset, I have been ever since I can remember. My parents still bring up to this day a time when my kindergarten teacher called them and set up a meeting. In this meeting my teacher expressed concern because whenever I was given instruction I would say without hesitation, "I can't". I would not even try to accomplish whatever the task was, I would just sit at my desk and say that I couldn't do it. In this specific instance it was that I could cut out a circle with a pair of scissors.
What I imagine I looked like attempting to cut a circle Source
Knowing this I have really had to push myself to not get frustrated when I had to do a new challenging task. I have always struggled with math and would go into the classes just hoping for a C. I would spend hours getting so mad to the point of tears when I couldn't figure a problem out. I did not enjoy the challenge and instead I feared it. To this day I have to force myself to go into my classes with a positive outlook and to not start out with a negative opinion. Freshman year at OU I had difficulty getting the motivation to work on my classes and studying because I "didn't care" about the material and thought why should I do it if I am not interested in it? It has taken me a lot of discipline and time management skills, but I have come along was from not studying to multiple 4.0's. This semester I hope to achieve another 4.0 along with being better overall about being excited to learn! Being the second semester of senior year I have a hard time keeping up my motivation! I know I can do it though and make the best out of this semester!
